Frequently Asked Questions

Who can apply to Spring Creek Charter Academy?

Students who live with a parent or legal guardian in Decatur, Grady, Miller, or Seminole County may apply. Families must provide proof of residency when completing enrollment.

Children of SCCA employees are exempt from the attendance-zone residency requirement.

Is there a cost to attend SCCA?

No. SCCA does not charge tuition or enrollment fees. Required textbooks and other reading materials are provided free of charge.

Does SCCA require an entrance exam or certain grades to qualify?

No. SCCA does not use entrance exams or academic performance as enrollment criteria. Eligibility is based on the requirements outlined in the enrollment policy, including residency and applicable disciplinary restrictions.

SCCA does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, disability, or age in its programs and activities.

How do I apply?

Complete the pre-enrollment application during the announced open enrollment period. This application asks for basic information, including your child’s name, grade, county of residence, and your contact information.

Applying is the first step. Families offered a seat will complete the full enrollment process afterward.

Does submitting an application guarantee my child a seat?

No. If applications exceed available space in a program, class, grade level, or building, SCCA uses a random lottery to fill available seats, subject to the school’s enrollment priorities.

Will applying earlier during open enrollment improve my child’s chances?

Submitting your application earlier within the open enrollment window does not give your child a higher lottery position. Make sure your application is submitted by the announced deadline to be included.

Does my currently enrolled child need to enter the lottery again?

No. Students enrolled at SCCA when the pre-enrollment deadline closes are automatically placed for the following school year, provided they remain eligible under the enrollment policy.

Who receives enrollment priority?

The policy establishes the following order of priority:

1. Currently enrolled students who remain eligible.

2. Children of current governing board members and qualifying school employees.

3. Siblings of currently enrolled students.

Priority is applied according to the school’s charter and enrollment policy.

Who qualifies as a sibling?

The policy includes biological siblings, half siblings, step siblings, and children who share a parent through adoption or guardianship. It also includes foster children awaiting permanent placement while living in the same household.

Do children of volunteers or substitute teachers receive employee enrollment priority?

No. Volunteers, substitute teachers, contractors, subcontractors, vendors, and service providers do not qualify for employee enrollment priority. Board committee members who are not also governing board members do not qualify for board-member priority.

The parent or guardian must currently serve in an eligible position to receive priority.

How does the lottery work?

When applications exceed available space, SCCA conducts a random lottery in an open forum. The lottery fills available seats according to the school’s enrollment priorities and applicable procedures.

A seat offer remains provisional until the required enrollment documentation is received.

What happens if my child is placed on a waiting list?

Your child may be offered a seat if an opening becomes available. SCCA will make reasonable efforts to contact the next family on the waiting list.

If the school cannot reach a family or a decision is not made within 72 hours, the seat may be offered to the next student. Please keep your contact information current and respond promptly if contacted.

Does the waiting list carry over to the next school year?

No. Waiting-list positions do not carry over from year to year. Families still interested in attending should submit a new application during the next open enrollment period.

What do I need to complete enrollment after my child receives a seat?

Families must complete the full enrollment packet and provide the required public school enrollment documentation. This includes an Affidavit of Residency and two proofs of residency.

Families must also provide information about the schools their child attended during the previous 24 months so SCCA can obtain records, along with required disciplinary disclosures. Follow the school’s enrollment instructions for the complete documentation requirements.

Can a current suspension or expulsion affect enrollment?

Yes. A student may be restricted from enrolling while serving a suspension or expulsion from another school if the underlying offense could also result in suspension or expulsion under SCCA’s Code of Conduct. The restriction lasts for the remaining term of that disciplinary order.

Other disciplinary matters are reviewed according to the enrollment policy and applicable procedures.

Can my child attend while SCCA is waiting for records?

The policy allows provisional enrollment for up to 10 days when all required disclosures have been provided. If critical records have not arrived after that period, the student is assigned to remote learning until those records are received. Final enrollment eligibility is determined under the policy.
