Curriculum and Culture

At Spring Creek Charter Academy, our goal is simple: help every student grow into a curious, confident learner.

What Guides Our Teaching

We use the Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE) as the foundation for our curriculum because:

  1. As a Georgia public school, we are required to take state-mandated tests.

  2. These tests are aligned to GSE.

But we don’t stop at the basics. Our teachers go deeper than the standards, making sure students gain a true understanding of each subject. Through Expeditions and hands-on projects, students move beyond memorizing—they become experts.

How We Teach

We believe learning should be engaging, challenging, and connected to the real world. At SCCA, students experience:

  • Hands-on learning where concepts are applied, not just taught.

  • Project-based and inquiry-driven lessons that spark curiosity.

  • Connections across subjects so knowledge builds in meaningful ways.

  • Limited use of textbooks—because real-world experiences teach best.

Direct instruction still has a place, but it’s balanced with authentic projects that make learning stick.

Supporting the Whole Child

Every student is unique, and our programs reflect that. We provide:

  • Gifted education, remedial support, and special education services

  • Opportunities in academics, arts, and extracurricular activities

  • A partnership approach where teachers, parents, and students work together to ensure growth

SCCA’s Instructional Model

  • Based on Constructivist Theory (students learn best by doing)

  • Student-centered and hands-on

  • Project-based and inquiry-based

  • Promotes curiosity, problem-solving, and critical thinking

  • Encourages collaboration and teamwork

  • Makes learning authentic and meaningful

Standards-Based Assessments & Reporting

We want parents to clearly understand their child’s progress. That’s why we use standards-based assessments instead of relying only on traditional grades.

  • Instead of just a “C” or a “75,” parents see which specific skills their child has mastered and where they need more support.

  • Reports show a percentage of standards met, giving a clearer picture of strengths and challenges.

This approach allows teachers, parents, and students to work together to target growth more effectively.

SCCA Culture

At Spring Creek, we believe kids learn best in a safe, positive, and connected community.

We call this “The SCCA Way.” It’s about more than academics—it’s about character, teamwork, and responsibility.

Here’s how we bring it to life:

  • Clear and consistent Code of Conduct

  • Daily Crew meetings to build relationships and teamwork

  • Teaching positive character traits through Design Principles

  • Student goal-setting and reflection on work habits

  • School-wide celebrations of success through Community Circles

  • Service projects, parental involvement, and community connections

At SCCA, students don’t just learn facts—they learn how to succeed in school and in life.
